The Central Election Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially approved Life Gupta as its candidate for the upcoming by-election in Ludhiana West, scheduled for June 19. Prior to this announcement, the BJP ramped up its campaign efforts through a series of worker meetings and local mobilization initiatives. In a recent event, senior leaders motivated grassroots workers, anticipating a competitive four-way contest.
BJP's Historical Context in Ludhiana West
Since 2012, the BJP has contested the Ludhiana West assembly elections with candidates such as Rajinder Bhandari (2012), Kamal Chaitli (2017), and Bikram Sidhu (2022), yet they have not secured a victory in this constituency. Despite previous setbacks, BJP officials remain optimistic, citing that in the recent parliamentary elections, the party garnered the highest number of votes in Ludhiana West. BJP candidate Ravneet Singh Bittu received 45,424 votes, surpassing Congress's Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, who received 30,889 votes, and AAP's Ashok Parashar Pappi, who garnered 22,461 votes.
AAP's Campaign Efforts
On the previous day, AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora submitted his nomination, accompanied by a high-profile roadshow featuring AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal, Bhagwant Mann, Atishi, and Aman Arora. Kejriwal emphasized AAP's historic mandate in the 2022 Punjab elections, which included their previous victory in Ludhiana West. The by-election is viewed as a crucial battleground in Punjab's political landscape, with both parties vying to strengthen their foothold in this significant urban constituency.
